Chapter 1 & 2

So far, I find this book fascinating. Not being a technological native, Chapter one give a real nice insight into the development of the Internet ( all these years, I thought Al Gore invented it, ha ha). It is absolutely amazing how far we have come in such a short amount of time. It has been like going from the Wright Brothers first flight at Kitty Hawk, to super sonic jet flights in about two decades. It was nice to be made aware of some of what is out there. I have heard of the social networking sites and blogs, had some rudimentary knowledge of Wikis but had not been at all formilar with RSS or Aggregators. Nice insight into those tools was provided.

The second half of the first chapter talked about student safety. Being the father of two young sons, makes this really hit home. My boys, being technological natives are always (with the exception of sports) on the Internet, playing on the computer, with the Wii or some hand held electronic device. Using the computer gives me pause. There are a lot of bad people out there that want to do bad things, that combined with the ease to which information can be gathered on the Internet is very worrisome. As educators and as parents, we have an obligation to do everything in our power to keep our students and our children save, or at least give them the knowledge (and knowledge is power) to be able to protect themselves.

Chapter Two got into bloging. I think blogging can be a very useful tool and Chapter two gave some great examples about how educators are using blogs.
